Which dining table suits your first home?

You choose a dining table for your first home by first looking at your available space, daily habits and budget. A large model may look attractive, but in a starter home it quickly takes up a lot of walking space.

Start with the space around the table

Mark out the desired dimensions on the floor with masking tape. You will see straight away how much room the top takes up. Also allow for chairs being pushed back. Is the table close to a kitchen unit, door or cupboard? Then check that you can still open them without problems.

Which table shape works well?

A round table is handy when you have few square metres and often eat with two to four people. An oval table gives more seats, while rounded ends need less space than sharp corners. A rectangular model works well along a long wall or in a narrow dining room.

Durable wood for longer enjoyment

For first-time buyers an affordable table matters, but also look at the expected lifespan. A solid wood table can last a long time with proper care. That means you will not need to buy a new table soon when you move or your household changes.
