These days the dining table is rarely tucked away in a separate room. It stands in the middle of life: next to the kitchen, as an extension of the living room, always in view. That is exactly why choosing the table matters more than ever. A table that does not fit in always stands out, and not in a good way.
Open-plan kitchen: think in materials, not styles
In an open-plan kitchen everything is connected. The table stands next to the kitchen island, opposite the sofa, in view of the kitchen cabinets. The trick? Make sure materials relate to each other, not that they match. A mango wood dining table next to a kitchen with wooden details or a wooden floor? That works straight away. Do you have a lighter kitchen and want to carry that through? Then an oak dining table is a beautiful choice: lighter in tone, but just as warm.
For open spaces, a rectangular or oval dining table works best: it follows the length of the room and does not block the walkway. A rectangular mango wood dining table of 200 x 100 cm or larger gives you plenty of seats and looks like one whole with the rest of the kitchen.
Separate dining room: the table can steal the show
Do you have your own dining nook or a separate dining room? Then you have more room to play. A round or Danish oval mango wood dining table gives the room something intimate. Hang a large lamp directly above it, lay down a rug and you have a dining area that feels like a place, not a passage.

Put it together yourself for the perfect fit
Do you know exactly which shape and wood you want, but would you like to choose the legs yourself? At Sfeerwonen Enzo you can order separate table tops in mango wood or oak and combine them with separate table bases of your choice. That way you create a table that fits your kitchen, your space and your taste perfectly.
Keep this in mind when choosing
- Keep at least 80–90 cm of walking space free around the table.
- Choose the size based on your daily use, not the maximum number of guests.
- A central base or spider base gives more legroom than four corner legs. Nice if you often have many people at the table.
- Mango wood and oak are both easy to maintain and last for years.
